Tariffs 3

By Justin G. on

The internet news and analysis periodical, Garbage Day, surfaced some important IRL facts: the ships aren’t in the ports anymore. Whatever stuff we have from the factory floors of the world is all that we’re getting for now. I’m not entirely sure what to do with that.

I mean, call your rep. Seriously.

There is no obvious move. There are no specific purchases that I can hurry along. For now the shelves are still stocked. Should I buy extra TP? Probably, even though I’m pretty sure we make that here, on this shore. Past experience has shown that people will lunge for that during a panic, but it’s a basically meaningless action. In the big picture, how important is that particular staple?

The shearing of the American mind will continue in the greatest experiment on Earth.

Supporting articles:

  1. Imports into the US from China to decline 75%. CNN.
  2. Planned voyages from China to the US are down 44% year over year, FreightWaves. But I don’t know if that controlling for short term variability or if it’s sensationalized a bit.
